Full list of winners & finalists below

hey may not be as glamorous as Hollywood’s esteemed Oscar awards, but the American Business Awards “Stevies” are every bit as coveted. Like the famed statuette that symbolizes excellence in the film industry, the Stevie recognizes extraordinary performances in the business world.

This year, more than a dozen Colorado companies are among scores of businesses nationwide receiving honors for everything from management performance to new products.

Among the Colorado-based winners were Xcel Energy Corp., which won a Gold award for “Company of the Year - Energy or Utilities,” and Virtela Technology Services of Greenwood Village, which won a Gold award for “Support Team of the Year – All Other Industries.” Virtela offers managed IT services for networks and applications.

Other Colorado winners included WhiteWave Foods Company, Banta Real Estate Consultancy, Crocs Retail Inc., M&E Painting, American Medical Response, Dean Evans & Associates, and Sentis Pty Ltd. See the complete Colorado winners list below.

The annual awards cover a broad swath of business endeavors, with ten major categories. Each category in turn encompasses as many as 50 subcategories, broken down by industry types and performance classifications, such as Most Innovative Company of the Year, Management Team of the Year, Best New Product or Service of the Year, Corporate Social Responsibility Program of the Year, Executive of the Year, and many others.

The awards are presented at two different ceremonies. The first, the organization’s traditional banquet, was held on June 17 in Chicago, where most of the winners in the various categories were announced. The second event will be held in San Francisco on September 16, where the remaining awards in the new products and tech categories will be announced. Finalists for the second round of awards have already been chosen, including a number of Colorado companies. Finalists will be competing for Gold, Silver and Bronze awards at that ceremony.

Finalists for the September event include EffectiveUI, Banta Real Estate Consultancy, tw telecomm, Akavit, Arrow Electronics, JobApp Plus, SolidFire Inc., and Virtela. See the Colorado finalists list below for details.

The American Business Awards are open to all organizations operating in the U.S. – public and private, for-profit and non-profit, large and small. According to ABA representatives, more than 3,200 nominations from organizations of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted this year. Award winners were selected by more than 320 executives nationwide who participated in the judging process.

The trophies are nicknamed the “Stevies” for the Greek word for “crowned.”

“This year’s American Business Awards was outsized in every way,” says Michael Gallagher, Stevie Awards founder and president. “More entries and more judges than ever before, and I’d have to say the most impressive collection of nominations we’ve ever received.”

More details about the awards and the complete lists of all winners are available at the ABA website.
