for 2013 APEX awards
ome 45 companies and 31 individuals are among the nominees for the Colorado Technology Association’s prestigious 2013 Apex Awards, honoring the cream of the crop of the state’s technology industry.
According to the association, the awards, which premiered in 2001, “recognize Colorado's technology excellence, highlighting remarkable leaders and innovators.” Nine winners in various categories will be announced at a black tie dinner September 10, expected to draw as many as 1,000 industry and community leaders. The awards will include:
- Technology Company of the Year Award
- Technology Project of the Year
- Bob Newman Lifetime Achievement Award
- Technology Entrepreneur of the Year Award
- Technology Community Connector Award
- Technology Teacher of the Year Award
- Technology Advocate of the Year Award
- Women in Tech of the Year
- Technology Startup Company of the Year
The association also announced that Arjun Gupta of TeleSoft Partners will be the keynote speaker at the dinner. Gupta is “Chief Believer” at TeleSoft, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm, and part of a new ownership group of the Sacramento Kings NBA franchise.
The last two awards on the list are new this year. While the nomination process has ended for most of the awards, the deadline for nominations for Technology Startup Company of the Year has been extended to July 28. To submit a nomination, visit the APEX nominations website.
The dinner will be followed by the APEX Conference and Challenge on September 11. Last year, the association combined two of its longest-running events — The Apex Awards and DEMOGala — into a two-day event honoring people, companies and accomplishments of the state’s tech industry and examining the critical issues facing the industry in the years ahead.
“APEX is more than an awards ceremony, conference and tech challenge,” association officials say. “APEX is your opportunity to be a part of the conversations driving innovation and technology in the state.”
The two-day affair will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Denver. Speakers will include Erik Mitisek, CEO of the Colorado Technology Association; Rick Dakin, CEO/CoFounder at Coalfire Systems; Michael Locatis, Founder and CEO of Nexusist; and Andrea Young, CIO and VP of Development, BI Incorporated.
